Typora-style markdown editor with a centred text column. Menus and the status line appear only while Alt is held (or a menu/dialog is open). With no argument opens an empty untitled document.
WORDPAD [file$]
file$ - optional path; loads via the filesystem when present, otherwise an
empty buffer is used with that path (.MD default). Must be a string,
e.g. "NOTES.MD" (an unquoted token such as NOTES.MD is a ?SYNTAX
error)
Menus: Alt+F File Alt+E Edit Alt+S Settings F10 File menu. File: New, Open…, Save, Save As…, Quit. Edit: Copy, Cut, Paste (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V; legacy ^K / ^U kept). Settings: View cycles normal / wide / narrow; the item names the current view. The centred text column wraps at 80, 120 or 60 columns respectively. The chosen view is remembered for the next launch. Colours follow OPTION THEME (same as the other themed apps).
Markdown: body is VGA 8x16 monospace. # / ## / ### headings use Times-style serif at 32x64 / 24x48 / 16x32 (shared baseline, not a scaled-up 8x16 face). Each heading letter advances by its own ink width so spacing is proportional; wrap follows the column width, and the cursor block fits the glyph. -/+/* bullets, 1. numbered lists, > quotes, ``` fenced code, **bold**. Word wrap at the column width; Enter inserts a real newline. Shift+Arrows select text. Tab indents the line (nests a list item) and Shift+Tab outdents it. Enter on a list item continues the marker: a numbered item increments (1. 2. 3.) and a bullet repeats. Enter on an empty item outdents a nested item one level, and on an empty top-level item clears the marker to end the list. Fenced code blocks paint a full-width background band, and Enter inside one carries the previous line’s leading whitespace onto the new line.
Crash resume: while a named document is dirty it is checkpointed about once a minute to a sidecar <file>.rec; OPTION AUTOSAVE OFF disables that periodic checkpoint (the leave-time save still writes the real file). Reopening a document whose sidecar is newer offers Recover (Y) or Discard (N); Recover loads it into the buffer and only overwrites the real file when you save. A clean save removes the sidecar.
Ctrl+P quick-open (recursive *.MD picker; typing filters on the document name first, then the path). Named buffers auto-save when switching files. F2 save F3 open Ctrl+Z undo Ctrl+X cut selection (no selection is a no-op, it never exits) Ctrl+C copy Ctrl+V paste. Alt+X (or File, Quit) leaves WORDPAD; a dirty buffer first asks Save / Discard / Cancel. Exit CLSes and restores the console colour. Open/Save As use a file picker (*.MD).
