RENAME

command · Also: MV, NAME

Rename a file or folder, or move it to another folder. Destination may be a new name or a path, on the same or another drive.

RENAME src$ [AS|TO] dst$ NAME src$ AS dst$ MV src$ [AS|TO] dst$

src$ - existing path dst$ - new name or path; if it names an existing folder, src$ is moved

inside it under its own name

A folder moves with its whole tree. Across drives the move falls back to a copy followed by a delete of the source. Moving a folder into itself or into one of its subfolders is refused.

Example:

RENAME "B.TXT" AS "C.TXT"
NAME "B.TXT" AS "C.TXT"
MV "C.TXT" TO "DATA/C.TXT"
NAME "SRC" AS "C:/BACKUP"
